“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

– Carl Rogers

My Background

Hello! I’m Amanda Garges, an EMDR-trained, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor based in North Carolina. My journey into counseling began with a deep curiosity about both myself and the people around me. I earned my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2020, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse individuals in various settings, including residential treatment and outpatient therapy. My heart lies in supporting adults and the LGBTQ+ community, and my own lived experiences inform my compassionate approach.
I strive to create a warm space that isn’t just welcoming, but affirming. What I hear from clients is that I honor the time and patience it takes to build a trusting relationship that allows for a balance of challenge and support. Though we may be engaging in hard work together, I also make space for lightness and laughter (sometimes in the form of a poor dad joke). You can expect me to bring my own authenticity to the room while playing an active and engaging role in providing feedback to encourage change.

As a relational therapist, I take an empathetic, trauma-informed, and collaborative approach structured to support your uniqueness. To me, our genuine therapeutic relationship is not just a tool but a central aspect of our work together. As a foundation, I draw on person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness practices—all tailored to support you in becoming the most authentic version of yourself. I particularly love using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help you navigate through past experiences and release old beliefs that may be holding you back.

Personal

Outside of the office, you might find me adventuring with my wife and our two dogs, Jack and Bailey, or visiting my favorite local bookstore with a fresh coffee.
